Most films on DVD today come with a lot of “bonus material”, which more often than not includes a gag reel, the collection of scenes that did not go as planned and typically result in actors losing their composure and laughing.

But levity on the job is not the exclusive privilege of the performing arts; indeed, it should be part of any job. It has a substantive impact on how you feel about both what you do and with whom you are doing it.

Take a moment and think back a week: what does your gag reel look like? Then think a week ahead: when reel moments arise, pause to savor them! They are an important element of what you do.
